Building a Profitable Adwords Campaign
Search Engine Optimization is no longer a matter of on page optimization. Those of us that have seen our top search engine positioning disappear have had to adapt and let our search engine marketing evolve to include, pay per click, inbound linking strategies and content development.
One of the most profitable for me has been Google AdWords. First off Google doesn't give you the top position based only on your bid amount. The bid is a factor but if you create an eye catching ad that gets clicks, more than someone paying more than you, your ad will show more and cost less per click. They call it a CTR (click through ratio) and if it is at least .5% your ad will continue to get exposure.
My secret for a profitable AdWords campaign is simple. Put all the high scoring CTR keywords into it's own group so the lesser CTR adwords don't dilute the good ones and pull the overall CTR of the group down. Personal preference here is a list of no more than 25 keywords. The other keywords are usually very low traffic and I like the low hanging fruit better. But that's just me I know there are those that would disagree.
Other things of critical importance are the keyword lists you create. Pick the wrong words that no-one is searching for and your wasting time, which is money. Keyword research is so important I don't leave it to the freebie tools.
I use Wordtracker and highly recommend you give them a look see. They do have a free trial by the way.
Beyond that make sure you know what your cost per acquisition are, check out the competition's ads. You will see that the keyword is used in the ad title and since it gets bolded it stands out better and probably will get more clicks.
One more thing that I found out the hard way, use negative keywords. This lets you filter out unrelated search terms that can get clicks from the broad match or even phrase match, but still are not targeted enough for what you offer.
If you go with broad match and use the right negative keywords you can do well. But as a beginner you may want to stick with exact match, the bidding prices is much higher for this but still its safest for starting out and learning the AdWords Advertising Game.
Google Adwords is too important to ignore and as an search engine marketer you need to get on board.
